These teaching resources are being posted here to help professors who are asked to make quick online transitions in the wake of Covid-19. Please use and edit these as needed and be sure to respect intellectual property rights. Currently the only resources I have available that are quickly adaptable to an online environment are some viewing guides for movies but I will add more resources if I think of any to add! I am also happy to add others' resources if you would like me to add them to this page just email me at [email protected]
Viewing Guides and Readings for Social Movements Movies
These are viewing guides from movies I have assigned in class. Most movies are available on Kanopy or YouTube. These guides are just to assist students in watching the movies to help guide them to what is important to pay attention to or to help them stay focused while washing the movies. These guides do not have any in depth or critical questions though a couple have additional activities with them as well. However for most of these you would need to come up with one or two discussion questions to have a full online discussion around these films.(also note, some have answers included and others do not, so be sure to check.)
Please keep in mind that these were developed as an assignment that I use in my classroom and as such the viewing guides are often intended to have students pay attention to things we will discuss in class or that are in readings or parts of other assignments they are completing. Therefore viewing guides may not all work for everyone due to the specificity of being designed for my own courses. However, they can be a good starting point and if you don't have time to prescreen the movies, just keep the most generic questions. Good luck a this very challenging time. Thanks for keeping the learning going!
